Why can we listen to some musicians and notice their technical skill and excellence and yet not be moved by their music. Why does another performer comes along and we just cannot get enough of what they do, even though we may realize what they’re doing isn’t that great or difficult, maybe it even has some mistakes in it – but we still love it?
100% perfection does not add up to great music – so what DOES add up to great music? Is it a style, a lyric, a certain instrument or configuration of instruments. Nope.
